2. Different application scenarios

 

2.1 SFP+ LC 1G bidi

The SFP+ LC 1G single-fiber optical module is suitable for situations where fiber resources are very tight. Imagine that an old building is renovated or the optical fiber has been laid, leaving only a single-core optical cable that cannot be re-routed. 1G single-fiber becomes the only solution. It can complete reception and transmission with one optical fiber, saving a lot of expenses. Therefore, it is more common in FTTx, video surveillance backhaul and other scenarios.

2.2 SFP LC 10G

The speed of SFP+ LC 10G dual fiber is 10 times that of the 1G module. It is very suitable for the interconnection of servers and switches in the data center and the data aggregation and forwarding of enterprise core networks. With sufficient fiber resource planning, it is not a problem to have two optical fibers, one receiving and one transmitting. In medium and long distances, it is suitable for 10 kilometers of metropolitan area network interconnection and 40-120 kilometers of backbone network extension.

In short, if the optical fiber is not enough, the 1G single-fiber module can solve the problem of network failure. If the broadband is not enough, then the 10G dual-fiber module can solve the problem of slow network.

3. Analysis of purchasing factors

3.1 Fiber resource situation

The core advantage of SFP LC 1G single fiber is to save fiber resources. Through wavelength division multiplexing technology, it only requires one fiber to achieve two-way communication, directly saving half of the fiber usage. SFP+ LC 10G dual fiber requires at least 2 available fibers at both ends of the link, one for sending and one for receiving.

3.2 Create a new network

In new networks, broadband planning is given priority, and 10G dual-fiber modules can directly provide 10G speeds, which has become a common choice for data centers and enterprise interconnections as bandwidth demands increase. SFP LC 1G single-fiber module is defined as a special solution in newly built networks. It is selected and used when facing extremely long transmission distances, high fiber laying costs, or bandwidth requirements are specific to 1G and will not be upgraded in the future.

3.3 Price factors

In short-distance scenarios, the unit price of 10G dual-fiber multi-mode modules is lower than that of 1G single-fiber modules at the same distance, but in long-distance scenarios, the unit price difference between the two is not significant. Moreover, the 1G single-fiber module has an integrated WDM coupler inside, and the process is more complicated. Its unit price is usually higher than that of a dual-fiber module with the same speed and distance. The more critical dimension is optical fiber. 1G single fiber only uses one optical fiber, while 10G dual fiber requires two optical fibers. When evaluating a module, you cannot just look at the module price. Optical fiber resources need to be taken into consideration in the cost dispute.
