What optical interfaces are there?

Optical module interfaces include fiber optic interfaces and RJ45 interfaces. Fiber optic interfaces are generally used to connect fiber optic patch cords with connectors such as LC, SC, MPO, etc. Optical modules with this type of interface are usually called optical port modules; while RJ45 interfaces, as the name implies, are used to connect network cables. We generally call optical modules with this type of interface electrical port modules.

RJ45 interface (electrical port module)

The line sequence of the RJ45 interface is that the interface appearance on the network card and hub is an 8-core female socket, and the RJ45 interface PC-side network cable is an 8-core male plug. In a 100-megabyte network, there are actually only four lines used to transmit data, and the other four lines are backup lines. The transmission signal is a digital signal, and the maximum transmission distance of the twisted pair is 100 meters.

LC interface

The best feature of the LC connector is its duplex configuration, which is one of the differences from the simplex connector. On the other hand, simplex connectors are designed to apply only a single fiber, thus allowing unidirectional use, while duplex LC connectors support two fibers, thus sharing data in both directions simultaneously. These two uses are why LC connectors are suitable for high data loads and speeds.

SC interface

The SC fiber interface is a special SC fiber patch cord connector, which is a molded plug-in coupling single-mode fiber connector. SC fiber interface: molded plug-in coupling single-mode fiber connector. It looks very similar to the RJ-45 interface, but the SC interface appears flatter. The obvious difference is the contact inside. If it is 8 thin copper contacts, it is an RJ-45 interface, and if it is a copper column, it is an SC fiber interface.

MPO interface

The MPO interface optical module refers to an optical module with an interface type of MPO, which must be used with an MPO interface patch cord. The MPO interface is divided into male and female heads, which must be used together. The interface type of a general optical module is an MPO male head, so an MPO female patch cord is used to connect the optical module.
